Our approach
Making the World Economic Forum a more sustainable organization, day after dayIn 2015, the Forum adopted its Sustainability Policy. In 2017, the Forum elaborated its Sustainable Procurement Policy to achieve high standards of integrity, inclusivity, transparency and stewardship in its value chain.
In 2018, for the first time, the Forum received the ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management of the Annual Meeting in Davos-Klosters. This certification has been renewed in 2022. The ISO 20121 standard requires the Forum to set up an Event Sustainability Management System and to demonstrate continuing efforts in sustainability at the Annual Meeting. This is checked during annual external audits. With ISO 20121, the Forum follows a strict methodology to embed sustainability into its internal policies and processes.
In 2019, the Forum committed to its sustainability roadmap: 21 actions for 2021.
These 21 actions address the large scope of sustainability issues relevant to our operations. They have been defined through a materiality assessment, which consisted of identifying potential environmental, social and governance issues for the Forum and its stakeholders. This was also supported by an environmental impact assessment of our offices, a carbon footprint study and a social risk assessment of our major event.
With these 21 actions, the Forum aims to ensure the highest level of sustainability for its offices, improving the sustainability performance of its events, and strengthening the integration of sustainability in its business practices and global operations.
