Sustainability at the Annual Meeting in DavosThe World Economic Forum brings together stakeholders to help address the greatest ecological crisis of our time.
On key topics like climate, mobility, energy and the circular economy, our platforms aim to facilitate action-oriented communities of stakeholders from all parts of the international system.
We recognize that in offering these platforms, we consume finite resources and cause emissions. We take the utmost care to mitigate our environmental impact. Our goal is to reinforce the Forum's sustainability journey to reach net zero by 2030 as well as maintaining the high standard required to renew the ISO 20121 certification for sustainable events.

A climate-neutral event
We aims to reduce the CO2 emissions of all its activities. Since 2017, all emissions are calculated and offset 100% by supporting environmental projects in Switzerland and abroad.

More sustainable transport
As transport is the primary source of CO2 emissions at the Annual Meeting, we ensure that sustainable alternatives are available for participants.
The journey to Davos by train offers both spectacular scenery and is less polluting. To encourage train travel, we offer 50% discount for all participants taking the train from Europe.
During the meeting, walking is encouraged and participants will be provided with winter shoe grips. Free shuttle buses and public buses are a good way of getting around and to help reduce traffic congestion.

Electricity
We make a concerted effort to limit energy consumption during its events, using 100% renewable electricity and best-in-class insulation at official venues. We have improved the sustainability of the Congress Centre in Davos with the installation of solar panels.

Circularity
We aim to use only what is really needed to host the Annual Meeting. We have integrated lean design principles, repurposed more of the event material and removed single-use plastics for beverages. A portion of the fabric from the previous event is recycled and will be reused for decoration purposes for the next Annual Meeting. We also collaborate with local association to distribute non-used furniture and provide leftovers from restaurants to local citizens.

On the menu
We use innovative data capture methods to develop sustainable food and food waste metrics year on year. At the Annual Meeting 2022, 97% of food was seasonal. Event after event, we improve our objectives on seasonal and locally sourced food combined with increasing the use of organic, label and fair-trade products. On Tuesday 17 January 2023, 100% of food served in the Congress Centre will be vegetarian.
